Craps history doesn’t go back as far as other gambling games. In fact, the history of Craps itself is only about 100 years old. Craps is a game played with dice. It’s the history of the dice that date back over 2000 years.
Craps is a descendent of a game called “Hazard”. It is believed that this game was played in the twelfth century during the Third Crusade, but that it has been around much longer than that. Additionally, it is rumored that the English settlers on the “Mayflower” brought this game to America. English Hazard gained popularity in New Orleans around 1800. There, the French called it Craps. Since then, the rules and odds changed several times.
It was John Winn who revolutionized and made it possible for players to bet right or wrong. He improved the layout of the table and created the “Don’t Pass” betting space. When casino gambling was legalized in Nevada (1931), Las Vegas Craps made its entrance and gained popularity all over the world.
